Móra Publisher - More than 70 years in the service of children’s literature

The Móra Ferenc Ifjúsági KönyvkiadóZrt is the successor of the 1950-founded Ifjúsági Kiadó, which, from itsestablishment until the change of the political system, was Hungary’s onlypublisher specializing in children’s and young adult’s literature. The IfjúságiKiadó took the name of Móra Ferenc Ifjúsági Könyvkiadó in 1957. Móra is theleader on the Hungarian market for children- and young adult book publishing.It offers classical and contemporary literature work primarily for the 0-18 agegroup, and it markets high quality publications of entertainment, education andtraining under several sub brands.

Among the Hungarian publishers of children’s literature, Móra has steadily ranked 3rd-4thplace on not just the number of titles but also on the revenue for ten years already, and it is the biggest among the independent - without network of stores - publishers.

Móra publishes around 400 titles, more than 1 million volumes. Its portfolio includes classical Hungarian- and world literature works, such as The Paul Street Boys,Pippi Longstocking, Lisa and Lotti or The Little Prince, Winnie the Pooh and Momo. The publisher proudly handles the works of such authors as Éva Janikovszky, Ágnes Bálint, Ervin Lázár, István Fekete, Veronika Marék, Gábor Nógrádi, Mária Szepes, Magda Szabó. Móra is the Hungarian publisher of the works of Richard Scarry, Erich Kastner, Astrid Lindgren.

In Móra’s backlist, licensed products and comic books are also available, in which, such known characters appear as The Mole, Thomasthe Tank Engine, The Smurfs, Spirit, Asterix and different LEGO themes. This product range is marketed as Móra FUN.

The Móra Publisher, along with publishing quality children’s literature and nonfiction, considers teaching and education activities its important mission. The MÓRA EDU brand was launched together with recognized experts. This brand was dedicated to fun competency building and it offers game based publications for teachers, parents and children. The LÜK product family is a key part of EDU. This is a more than 50 year old fun learning system of competency building. Currently, it is available in 35 countries, in 18 languages, and it forms an integral part of the education system in several countries.

Along with the traditional publishing activities, Móra takes part in the most innovative children’s book projects, for example, in the development of digital application for the BookRKids library. This is Hungary’s first digital children’s book library, and asan enterprise, it has evolved into a listed player of the international start-up market (both in the area of literature and education). Furthermore,with another enterprise together, a few years ago, Móra founded one of the small but today professionally recognized theatres of Budapest, the 6szín, and with this, Móra directly entered the theatrical scene.
